Godly Play Training

Program longevity corresponds directly to the number of well-trained Godly Play leaders. Because Godly Play is a dynamic, spiritual practice, training is essential to every Godly Play program.

We recommend that all adults in the Godly Play room attend Core Godly Play training before beginning to teach Godly Play. Core training equips Storytellers and Doorpersons with the skills and processes to lead Godly Play sessions with children.

Administrators such as clergy and Christian Ed Directors will also benefit from attending Core training, especially when setting up a Godly Play room. Core training highlights the main theology of Godly Play, which allows administrators creating the Godly Play environment to maintain theological integrity when working through hurdles such as the constraints of the physical space or the timing of Godly Play sessions in the worship schedule.

Overwhelmingly, Godly Play teachers report that they receive much spiritual growth through training and practice. For that reason, we have organized the Godly Play Guild for continuing training, support, and fellowship!

We will hold training sessions for Godly Play on two dates. Please choose which date is convenient for you and sign up below. If neither date works, please email Kathy Smith.

Session 1
Saturday, August 19      9am to 11am

Session 2
Sunday, August 27      2pm to 4pm

Children’s Programming on Sunday Morning

Jesus loves the little children and so do we.

At Christ Church, our children experience a warm, loving, and happy environment where they can safely explore their world. Throughout the year, we offer nursery care, Children’s Chapel, Sunday School, Canterbury Choir, and other seasonal activities. We have a loving and dedicated staff whose mission it is to ensure all children sense God’s love and comfort when they spend time at Christ Church.

For more information on any of the programs listed, please contact Christian Education Interim, Kathy Smith at  or 850-432-5115.

NURSERY (Opens 7:45 am)

Nursery care is provided for infants and toddlers (ages 6 weeks - 4 years) for all Sunday church services and many church-wide events and activities. Nursery is open at least 15 minutes prior to the beginning of the service (or event) and remains open for 15 minutes following the service (or event). For the protection of our children, all paid workers undergo background checks and receive training in First Aid, CPR, and abuse recognition and prevention.

Volunteers for Nursery must be 16 or older, have completed the Safeguarding God’s Children, and must be accompanied by a trained Nursery Care worker at all times. This is an excellent way for responsible teens to earn service hours.  All volunteers must be approved by Christian Education Department.

There are three nursery rooms located in the Christian Education/Music Building on the ground floor.

What is Godly Play? Children have an innate sense of the presence of God. The Godly Play approach helps them to explore their faith through story, to gain religious language and to enhance their spiritual experience though wonder and play. Based on Montessori principles and developed using a spiral curriculum, the Godly Play method serves children through early, middle, and late childhood and beyond.

Three newly renovated classrooms provide a safe, clean environment in which children can explore and discover. Come join us!

Godly Play Storytellers and doorkeepers are a unique community of adult volunteers who love to work with children and see them discover their faith!  Training opportunities are available in August, November, and March and give our adults the confidence to work in the Godly Play environment. All volunteers must complete Safeguarding God’s Children. Other opportunities to meet in fellowship with your Godly Play family present themselves throughout the year! CHILDREN'S CHAPEL SERVICE (During the 10:30 A.M. service)

Children’s Chapel is held each Sunday upstairs in the Christian Education Building. Children’s Acolytes lead children from the sanctuary during the second hymn and return during the Peace. In Children’s Chapel, children enjoy a bible story, singing, prayers, and other activities.

Adults and older children who would like to help during Children’s Chapel are always invited to join the procession. If you have a special mission, story, or event you would like to share during Children’s Chapel, please contact Kathy Smith at   at least 5 days prior.

All children first to fifth grade ages are encouraged to serve a turn as a children’s acolyte. Children take pride in taking part in the service! There are three positions each week: crucifer, flag, & Candle Lighter.

Sign up to be a children's acolyte!

Please contact the Christian Education Office at   or (850) 432-5115.
