David Leahey began his musical career as a chorister at Liverpool Cathedral, England. During that time he gained a wonderful choral education, participating in services for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, HRH Princess Diana and Prime Ministers Margaret Thatcher and John Major. David also toured Spain and Japan alongside Paul McCartney performing McCartney’s Liverpool Oratorio. While still a teenager he became organist for a number of churches in Liverpool and its surrounding area. At age sixteen he was appointed as Organ Scholar at Liverpool Cathedral under the tutelage of the world-renowned Professor Doctor Ian Tracey, and in this capacity, he accompanied and conducted services and assisted in the training of probationer choristers.
In 1997 he followed in the footsteps of Gustav Holst, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Herbert Howells, and was awarded the foundation scholarship at the Royal College of Music in London, England, before returning to Liverpool to study for a Bachelor of Honors degree in Music and Information Technology.
Prior to David joining Christ Church, he was the Director of Music at two high-profile churches in the DC Metro area and Director of Music at Christ Church, New Bern. During his time in the USA, he has worked with George Mason University and demonstrated his excellent repertoire by performing recitals at the White House, the Blair House, and Washington’s National Cathedral, among other establishments throughout the US.
