Walt comes to us after serving at Holy Cross and St. Christopher’s Episcopal Churches here in Pensacola. Walt grew up a Roman Catholic in West Virginia and spent a thirty-year career in the U.S. Navy, serving as a meteorologist and in mapping and charting operations. He became an Episcopalian while stationed in Louisiana in the early 1980s. After his Naval service, Walt was a school teacher for a couple of years and then worked in federal service as a management assistant.
Walt met Becky here at Christ Church when he was stationed here and she worked in federal service at NAS Pensacola. They have been married 28 years and have four grown sons.
About thirteen years ago, Walt began discernment for a call to ordained ministry He attended The General Theological Seminary in New York and was ordained a priest in July of 2014.
Walt holds Bachelor’s degrees from Chaminade University of Honolulu and Florida State University and Master’s degrees from Florida State (History) and The General Theological Seminary (Divinity).
Walt says the driving forces of his ministry are “spirituality, contemplative practices, and seeking to find the active presence of God’s spirit in each and every person I meet.” He loves all aspects of parish ministry and is excited for this opportunity to serve here at Christ Church.
