Seasonal Outreach Activities at Christ Church

The People who are Christ Church generously reach out their hands in love to those in need during specific seasons. These opportunities are posted in all forms of Christ Church communications in the weeks leading up to the event.
Thanksgiving Meal
Each year, the People who are Christ Church (over 100 volunteers) come together to prepare and serve a traditional Thanksgiving meal to our neighbors in need – approximately 150-200 homeless men, women, and children. Our neighbors come to a fully prepared meal with all the fixings and receive a gift of needed toiletries, gloves, blankets, and socks. In addition, guests can get their bicycles repaired at no cost. The Pyles coordinate this event.
Angel Tree
Millions of children in America will go without Christmas gifts because their parents are not able to afford them. Financial and emotional stress dampen the Christmas cheer of families living in poverty. In partnership with Montclair Elementary, individuals and families adopt “angels” (Montclair students and their siblings as well as Montclair teachers) to put new clothes and toys under the tree for children who typically do not have gifts at Christmas. A few weeks prior to Christmas, parishioners use information from Angel Tree “ornaments” to guide them in purchasing Christmas gifts for children in need. This activity is coordinated by the Outreach Committee.
March Madness
During the season of Lent, the annual Christ Church “March Madness” competition is held. This program supports Episcopal Relief & Development and its efforts to fight poverty, hunger, and disease, provide disaster relief, and promote sustainability throughout the world. In financially supporting one of the competitors, individuals and families have the opportunity to name their competitor. The pun-iest name is announced on Easter Sunday. Hilda Jones coordinates this opportunity and competition.
Summer of Service
Christ Church “Summer of Service” activities kick off in late May and continue into early August. The projects, sponsored by the Outreach Committee, provide opportunities for you and your family to volunteer your time in a variety of settings.
Responses to Emergencies
After natural disasters or other major events, the People who are Christ Church are urged to participate in extending hands in love to those facing trauma and disaster. Relief and Recovery opportunities are available through Christ Church communications. We are grateful for all of your support in times of great need.
Diocesan Jubilee Celebration
During the year 2020, we celebrate as part of the Central Gulf Coast 50th anniversary of formation through service activities based on the themes of the Jubilee celebration. The Outreach Committee coordinates these opportunities throughout this year.
