Outreach Opportunities

During this time, there are ways to effectively and safely, extend our hands in love to our neighbors in need. Each week, the Chronicle will provide upcoming opportunities and a list of other ways to be involved. If you are looking for ways to be involved, please consider these immediate needs of our community.

Instructions on how to Sew Surgical Masks

Summer of Service: Masks for Freedom School
At home, anytime, by June 22
This summer, Christ Church, along with six other Episcopal churches in the area and staff from Montclair Elementary & Dixon School of the Arts, will be hosting a summer reading program for school-age students (called the CDF Freedom Schools) at Dixon School. CDF Freedom Schools is a culturally enriching program that strengthens academic, civic, and socioemotional skills in a creatively fun way. In preparing for the safety of our students, we need youth-sized masks. Please email Rev. Katie at kathryn@christ-church.net if you are able to help in making masks.

Food Distribution – Christ Church

In partnership with Feeding the Gulf Coast, Christ Church will continue to be a food distribution site. Our next two dates will be June 5 and 19. We are looking for a small team of hardworking people who can work in two shifts that day (sorting and distribution). There will be some labor-intensive jobs (i.e., carrying boxes of food) and other jobs (i.e., people filling out forms for each car). While it is outdoors and we take precautions like masks and gloves, please do not volunteer if you are at a high risk of infection or if you are not feeling well.

If you are interested in helping to volunteer with the next effort, please email Honey Harris at Honey@christ-church.net.

Children’s Outreach Opportunity

Christ Church is collecting paper chain links that share messages
of LOVE and HOPE to inspire the world. Our links, and the links of children
around the world, will all be connected for the Guinness Book of World Records,
then distributed to senior centers and hospitals as a beautiful reminder that we are all Linked By Love!

Specific instructions can be found here: https://kidsforpeaceglobal.org/linkedbylove/

For the kids

[distance][distance]

Parents, if you are looking for a break, these Bible-based shows provide enough entertainment to keep the kiddos engaged, with enough formation that they might learn something!

This site offers free Bible activity sheets and lessons in PDF form- just download, print, and go!
Download Activity Sheet

19 Full-length Veggie Tales episodes
If your kids have never seen Veggie Tales, these shows will change your life.
25 Godly Play stories
This is the curriculum we use during Sunday School, so the kiddos probably know most of these stories.
Cartoon Bible stories from “The Beginner’s Bible”
Something random I found on YouTube, but if you own a Beginner’s Bible it would a neat opportunity to cross-reference.

Outreach is a great way to keep kids feeling connected and helpful during this time of isolation. Every day, choose someone out of the church directory. Have your child write that person (couple, family) a letter or draw/color them a picture to show them they are loved and remembered. Together, we can teach our little ones that love conquers all, and inspire some smiles as well.
